Title: Development Director

Reports to: Executive Director

Status: Full time, exempt

Compensation: $50,000 to $60,000, DOE

Schedule: 40 hours per week; primarily working at the Hollywood Theatre office during regular business hours (M-F, 9:00am-5:00pm), but occasional weekend and evening work will be required

Do you have a knack for fundraising and a passion for film and historic buildings?  The Hollywood Theatre is looking for an enthusiastic, versatile, and experienced Development Director to join our team! 

The Development Director is responsible for planning, organizing, and executing all fundraising activities for the nonprofit Hollywood Theatre (and Movie Madness) in Portland, Oregon. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Development Director will manage the Hollywood’s robust membership program, cultivate major gifts, oversee sponsorship strategies and relationships, research and write grants, and spearhead annual fundraising campaigns. This is a great opportunity for a well-rounded development professional to be an integral part of the team at a fast-paced, well-respected media arts organization.

Essential Functions

The Development Director’s work will include, but is not limited to, the following areas of focus: 

  • Oversee membership fulfillment 
  • Ensure delivery of all membership benefits across multiple channels
  • Generate member communications 
  • Assist with member inquiries/issues related to ticketing, online accounts, benefits 
  • Coordinate member events 
  • Liaise with prospective and current sponsors 
  • Generate and oversee fulfillment of sponsor contracts 
  • Research, write, and track grants for multiple projects 
  • Fulfill grant requirements including reporting for funded projects 
  • Assist in management/maintenance of Hollywood Theatre CRM system 
  • Coordinate year-end and other fundraising campaigns in partnership with Marketing Director and Executive Director
  • Manage additional Development staff


  • Minimum 4 years nonprofit development experience
  • Minimum 2 years membership/donor stewardship experience
  • Minimum 2 years grantwriting experience
  • Minimum 2 years management experience
  • Planned giving experience preferred
  • Proficiency with CRM systems
  • Proficiency with email marketing solutions
  • Excellent project management skills, with strong attention to detail
  • Excellent written communications skills, including content writing and editing 
  • Strong commitment to the mission of the Hollywood Theatre and to the power of film as a profoundly enriching art form
